It almost was. (This will be short.)
Gordon’s resume is impressive, no doubt about it. In a hypothetical one on one debate with Teodoro, Gordon can win. Heck, he can wipe the floor with Gibo.
However, I am not confident that Gordon has the temperament and political touch necessary for the Presidency. He isn’t diplomatic at all. My brother raised an interesting point: Can you imagine him side by side with Barack Obama? (Another qualification for dissing Noynoy.)
I actually can. During a climate change conference, he would probably pull the Southeast Asian caucus aside and go, “There will be no fucking deal unless we have the fucking Chinese on board!”
Under a Dick Gordon presidency, that isn’t so fuckin’ far from happening.
Just not my cup of tea, s’all.
But strangely, I would vote him for VP. He’ll be our Joe Biden!

I was about to ask you this, hehe.
I think that in light of what he’s accomplished vis-a-vis the media’s portrayal of him, it stands to question whether a man who has no diplomatic skill whatsoever would have accomplished everything he’s gotten done.
He’s also the most open to foreign investors among all the candidates, as far as I can tell. Most of the others have a show of being diplomatic without actually meaning it.
On TV it’s easy to look diplomatic without actually being so. I’m sure we all know the hollow “let’s talk about it (but never bring that up again)” + plastic smile combo that we’ve had to deal with as government employees. I’d rather deal with someone who can tell me point-blank it’s not going to happen.
That said I do think it would serve him better to speak softly and carry a big stick instead. I wish he had Gibo’s even temper, but more and more I’m thinking that in this country where spoiled sycophants grow like fungal colonies around positions of power, we need a guy who can tell them to shut up and get to work.

He also reminds me of The Penguin, for some reason.
Gordon is best as a bad cop to someone’s good cop, and I prefer the President — our Head of State — to be the good cop by virtue of the position. Gordon would be a fantastic VP to someone like Teodoro or even Roxas. But given our choices now, you know how I go.

I think about telling people to shut up and get to work, you don’t need someone as, well, forceful as that. You can be even-tempered and still assert your role as the dominant party or the superior. If there’s a will, there’s a way. And I personally think Gibo has that – the will. (maybe Gordon, too, but still..)
